Matthew Terrell "Matt" Colvard was born in McMinnville, Tennessee in 1968 and graduated from Warren County Senior High in 1986. He attended the University of Tennessee and graduated with high honors in 1990. He then entered service with the U.S. Army and served for six years as an infantry and then military intelligence officer. After leaving the Army, he attended and graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Law in 2000. Matt tried his first jury trial as a prosecutor for the state in Franklin, Tennessee under supervision of another attorney before he received his bar exam results. He was admitted to the Tennessee Bar in October, 2000 and served for three years with the District Attorney’s Office for the 21st Judicial District (Williamson, Hickman, Lewis, and Perry counties). In 2003, Matt was ordered back to active duty and served as a trial counsel (military prosecutor) and Special Assistant United States Attorney at Fort Benning, Georgia. After serving for eight months, Matt returned to Franklin and soon after went into private practice from 2004 until 2008. In 2008, Matt was again ordered back to active duty, this time as the Command Judge Advocate for the Victory Base Command in Baghdad, Iraq. After returning from Iraq, Matt returned to private practice in Franklin for a year before deciding to move home and join Farrar, Holliman, Medley, and Butler.
